Finding the Right Journal | Pt. 1: Spiral, Leather, Cloth, Other

From the last post, I shared Girl and Quill's video on the types of journal designs to keep. I would like to add more by adding my thoughts on the different types of journals.

SPIRAL BOUND

The convenient thing about spiral bound is that you can flip the pages around to minimize space. I love this type of journal, but the annoying part is when the spiral bind bends or starts unraveling (at least they do with my experience). I have several spiral bound journals and it just depends on the journal on how well it will hold together.

LEATHER

With leather journals, they are great because it looks sleek and guys usually write in. You can also make your own leather journals by buying the supplies at a hobby store. For me, I have a few in my own journal collection that have the leather cover on it and I love it! The only downside is that the leather, if not careful, will scratch or tear easily.

CLOTH

There are journals out there with a cloth cover like the photo above. I have two in my journal collection and I absolutely love it! One of my cloth covered journal was handcrafted in India and it's beautiful, but it tends to be delicate as on occassion, there will be a loose thread. With my second one, the threading is much sturdier. It depends on the quality.

OTHER

With this catagory, you can also use notebooks (like a composition one or a regular spiral) or an art sketchbook as a journal. There are also special journals that are a 5-year journal or a sentence a day journal (Barnes and Noble has those types or just look online).
